Tasks that find you
You don't check your to-do list at the grocery store. You forget, buy the wrong things, drive home, and remember.
Location Intelligence fixes this. Tell AgenToDo where your life happens, and the right tasks appear at the right time — exactly when you can act on them.
It's David Allen's GTD contexts — @office, @errands, @home — except AgenToDo handles the switching. Your physical location becomes the context. Walk into the office and your work tasks are already waiting. Drive to the store and your errands appear. No tagging. No switching. Just being where you are.
Privacy first: Location features are entirely opt-in — off by default. Nothing tracks you until you say so. Details below.
Places
Save the locations that matter. Home. Office. Gym. The grocery store around the corner. Your favorite coffee shop. The dry cleaner you always forget exists until you're three blocks past it.
Each Place gets its own icon and color — so your task list feels like a map of your actual life, not a spreadsheet.
Some locations aren't a single pin. A shopping mall has multiple entrances. A university campus sprawls across blocks. Places support multiple points, so AgenToDo triggers correctly no matter which entrance you use.
Set them up once. Use them forever.
Arrive & Depart
"When I get to the office, remind me to submit expenses."
That's it. AgenToDo triggers reminders when you arrive at or leave a Place. The notification appears at the moment it's useful — not three hours earlier when you can't do anything about it.
Under the hood, this uses Apple's Core Location for geofencing — all processing happens on your device. No server pings. No cloud round-trips. Your Mac's location services do the work, and the reminder fires the instant you cross the boundary.
Depart reminders are just as powerful. "When I leave the office, remind me to pick up the prescription." You walk out the door, and you're reminded. Done.
You don't think about how it works. You just get reminded.
Good to know: macOS limits how many regions an app can monitor at once, so AgenToDo keeps the 20 most relevant Places active and pauses the rest. Background arrivals need the "Always" location permission, geofences take a moment to settle after setup, and repeated arrivals within a short window are deliberately deduplicated — one nudge, not five.
Nearby Perspective 📍
Open AgenToDo near the mall, and it shows you everything you need to do while you're there. Near the office? Here are your work tasks. Running errands across town? Every relevant task surfaces automatically.
This is a dedicated view — the Nearby perspective — that filters your tasks based on your current location. No clicking, no searching, no remembering which list you put that thing on.
It's especially useful for errand runs. You're out anyway — Nearby shows you everything you can knock out while you're already in the area. The dry cleaning, the returns, the thing you needed from the hardware store. All in one view, surfaced because you're close.
Map View
Sometimes you want the big picture. Map View puts all your Places on a visual map so you can see where your tasks are clustered — and plan your day (or your errands) accordingly.
Access it from the sidebar, the menu, or the keyboard shortcut.
Shortcut: On Mac, press ⌘⌥M to jump straight to the Map View from anywhere in the app.
It's a useful planning tool. See three tasks clustered near downtown? Maybe group those errands into one trip. Notice nothing pending near home? Maybe today's a good day to stay put.
Location Insights
AgenToDo doesn't just remind you — it helps you understand your patterns.
Each Place has an insights panel that shows:
- Hour-of-day activity chart — when do you actually visit this place? Morning person at the gym, afternoon regular at the coffee shop. The chart shows your real habits, not what you planned.
- 90-day activity sparkline — a quick visual of how often you've been somewhere over the past three months. Useful for noticing drift. ("I used to go to the gym four times a week...")
- Average arrival-to-completion time — how long it typically takes you to finish tasks once you arrive. Your grocery run averages 23 minutes? Now you know.
- Top task titles per place — the tasks you do most at each location. Reveals routines you might not even realize you have.
All built with Swift Charts, so the visuals are native and crisp. No web views, no janky renders.
Smart Suggestions
Visit the same coffee shop three times a week and AgenToDo notices. It suggests saving it as a Place.
Keep buying oat milk at the same store? It suggests automating the reminder.
Here's how it works under the hood:
- Visits within 150 meters of each other are automatically clustered — so parking in different spots at the same shopping center still counts as one place.
- Three or more visits to a cluster triggers a suggestion to save it as a Place.
- Repeated tasks at the same location trigger a suggestion to set up an automatic reminder.
- You'll never get more than 2 suggestions per day — the app is helpful, not nagging.
- Don't want a suggestion? Dismiss it permanently. It won't come back.
The app observes your patterns and offers shortcuts. You always decide — it only suggests.
Location Intelligence
Beyond reminders and suggestions, AgenToDo can use location as a layer of metadata across your entire task system.
- Auto-tagging: Tasks can be automatically tagged with your location when created or completed. This is opt-in — turn it on and every task gets a quiet location stamp that makes filtering and searching more powerful later.
- Title-based inference: Type "buy groceries" and AgenToDo suggests your grocery store. It reads common keywords in task titles and maps them to your saved Places. No manual assignment needed.
- OmniFocus import: If you're migrating from OmniFocus, any location-based tags get promoted to full Places during import. Your @grocery tag becomes a real geofenced Place with arrive/depart support.
Contexts, automated
If you know Getting Things Done, you know contexts. David Allen's idea was brilliant: tag tasks with where you can do them — @office, @errands, @home — and filter by context when you're ready to work.
The problem was always execution. You had to manually tag everything. Manually switch contexts. Manually remember to check the right list at the right time.
Location Intelligence is the same concept, fully automated. Your physical location becomes the context. Walk into the office and your @office tasks are already waiting. Drive to the store and your errands appear. Leave home and your "before you go" list pops up.
No tagging. No switching. Just being where you are.
It's what GTD always wanted to be — but couldn't, because phones didn't know where you were yet.
Privacy
Location is sensitive. We know that. So here's exactly how AgenToDo handles it:
Off by default
Location features are entirely opt-in. When you first install AgenToDo, nothing location-related is active. No location access. No geofencing. No tracking. You turn on what you want, if you want.
Granular control
There are 6 individual feature toggles — you can use arrive/depart reminders without auto-tagging, or use the Nearby perspective without Smart Suggestions. Mix and match. Each feature is independent.
Transparency dashboard
A dedicated section shows you exactly what AgenToDo knows about your movements. Every data point, visible and auditable. No hidden databases. No "we collect this for analytics." What you see is what exists.
Your data, your control
- Export all location data as JSON — take it with you, inspect it, do whatever you want.
- Delete everything, anytime. One button. Gone.
- All location data stays on your device and in iCloud — never on MacPaw servers.
No tracking. No profiling. No exceptions.
